Il Bambino's soup of the day thread.

I'm always wondering what the soup of the day is at Il Bambino.  Their site is down and they don't have a regular soup schedule so I propose this thread.  I'll call everyday, find out what the soup is and post it here.  I think all the soups at Il Bambino are delicious.  They all come with crostinis and are a comforting and hearty meal.

Maple butternut squash with cinnamon.

That particular soup tastes exactly like love, so I would anticipate hearts.

I've never been there and it's sort of out of the way for me, but I am tempted to stop by on the way to work (I go in in the afternoon) to have a soup. Is it the kind of place where one can go in by themselves and enjoy a soup at a table?

I've asked and they do not have a soup schedule.

However I'm an addict.

Saturday was tomato bisque
Monday was cream of sweet onion and spinach
Wednesday tomato lentil
Thursday roasted maple butternut squash w/cinnamon (distinctly different from butternut/ginger/honey/rosemary)

I've also tried --
cream of mushroom, minestrone w/prosciutto, butternut/ginger mentioned above

And I've heard of cream of celery.

^^ I think I've had most of those.  I haven't tried sweet onion and spinach.  The cream of celery was amazing, even though it sounds... sort of strange. 

Today's soup is:

Roasted potato puree with fresh thyme.

they had this cauliflower almond soup one time that was ridiculously good, I keep waiting for that one to be the SOTD so I can buy a bunch.

wow, those soups sount truly glorious, i may get that potato thym for dinner.

do they make salads or have healthy sandwiches?  i'm on the lose weight or buy all new pants diet.

Thanks!  :)  They have paninis and some non-standard salads.  I think the trick to losing weight at Il Bambino is portion control.  If you order a panini, have half and reheat the rest later.  They are pretty filling.  I don't generally order the salads because I'm such a nutjob for the soups.  If you try some, let us know.

There are not a lot of salads on the menu but there is a -- arugula "mimosa" salad with baby arugula, shaved egg, and bacon vinaigrette.  tasty.

(OT: Arugula is not yet in the Astorian's spell check database)

Does anyone know if the soups that DON'T have meat right there in the title, are vegetarian? There aren't a lot of places in Astoria that serve vegetarian soups (please correct me if I'm wrong), and some of these sound really tasty.
