Nods counter.......
« on: August 13, 2007, 02:55:40 PM »
Just a suggestion, but it would be great to know what my overall Nod count is. Is there a screen that shows the sum of all nods we have ever gotten?

Can someone take this opportunity to explain how 'nods' work and what exactly they mean?

A thumbs up nod means the person generally agrees and likes what you're saying in that particular post.

A thumbs down, or "negative nod" means the person does not agree and does not like what you're saying in that particular post.

They aren't tallied to show who the most popular or unpopular poster is?

The nod feature does have the ability to show how many nods a person has gotten, but it's not enabled :)

Also, there's been some debate about what the positive or negative nods mean. Some people use them as a "reaction" about how they feel about the content:

i.e. "1,000,000 tons of raw sewage released into kitten sanctuary" might get negative nodded because everyone loves kittens and they feel badly about their plight.

Some people use them to express whether or not they "agree" with that particular poster. i.e. "I think Astoria sucks" might get negative nodded because people disagree with that statement.

There's no "rule" on the board that says how you must use the nods.

Kittens are pretty awesome.

If a post gets negative nodded a bazillion times, does it get reported to a mod?

Nope, just clicking "report to moderator" does.
