Hey guys!  I just wanted to let you know there is a petition going around to bring a green market (ala local farmers market like in Union Square) to our own Astoria, in Athens Square Park on 30th Avenue.  This would be a wonderful addition to the neighborhood, not to mention convenient and yummy!!   But this will not happen without community support and signatures.  Please add your name to this petition and ask your friends in Astoria to do the same.  Thanks for the help!!

Let's get this rolling!!  We need all signatures by May 1, so we can get them over to the Community Board.  Don't forget to add your zip code or intersection (we need to know that all the signers are from Astoria).
Thanks!

Is anyone interested in collecting signatures by hand?  Want to ciruculate a petition in your building?  Going to any events where you can ask for signatures?

Let's brainstorm ways to maximize exposure and get more signatures!

The Street Fair is a good idea.  I'm going to get signatures at my church this upcoming weekend too.

Hey - I failed to put my zip code on the petition - is there a way to correct it?

Things I'm looking forward to in having an Astoria greenmarket at Athens:

- riding my bike to vegetables
- strawberries mid-week
- not having to haul myself to union square (ugh)
- buying fish (marinos) and buying veg in the same trip!

When I attempted to sign the petition, the website asked me for a donation. There is no option to skip this. Do I have to donate to sign the petition? Sort of a money-grubby thing for this website to do, if ya ask me.

I was confused by that, too.  Then after looking at it, I noticed that at the top it says "your signature has been posted" or something like that.  So You've already signed it and can just close the window if you don't want to donate.

They give you the option to give them money, but it's not required.  Sorry they're doing that, but they're hosting the petition for free.

Thanks!
I'm hoping when we have them all together we have at least 250 signatures, though 500 would be even better!
