I used to commute by bike from the neighborhood to near Macy's every day to work. I've not rode in since I got pregnant, but something definitely needs to be done about the sorry safety conditions for bikes in the LIC/Astoria area. We need one street that's got a buffered bike lane, all the way down from Ditmars to the bridge. Why can't something like that go in under the train? Let the cars park closer to the lanes of traffic and keep the curb side 4 feet on both sides of the street for bike lanes. It's perfect.

Congrats on the baby.

More protected bike lanes are definately a priority.  Here's another way to make your voice heard (not just on bikes but on the future of NYC) at the PlaNYC Open House meetings that are being held in each of the boros.  Here's the info for the one in Queens:

Queens Town Hall Meeting (open to the public)
6:30pm, Thursday, March 8, 2007
New York Hall of Science
47-01 111th Street, Queens, NY
Directions: www.nyscience.org

You can go to http://www.nyc.gov/html/planyc2030/html/home/home.shtml to see what Bloomberg and others have in mind for the future of the Big Apple.

Also here's a smiley. Rock On
