Broadway is actually more like the border between Astoria and LIC.

I suppose technically this is the border, but I think the border has evolved in the past few years. When someone tells me they live in LIC I think of the area south of the bridge, possibly south of 36th Ave... but for the sake of this poll, I'd label "Southern Astoria" as Broadway and below.

In any event, it's all better than the Williamsburg/Bushwick borderline debate!!

I agree that the LIC/Astoria border "feels" more like Northern Boulevard.  As a 35th Avenue dweller, I can easily walk to Ditmars and never feel like I'm crossing neighborhoods, but crossing Northern Boulevard is just a huge boundary.

Not that I'm the authority on this by any means, but I kind of think of the 7 train as "Long Island City" and the N/W train as "Astoria".  Culturally, those areas are just completely different, and 35th/36th Ave are still consistent with the layout and feel of Astoria to me, whereas the stuff off the 7 train isn't.

Oh yeah, I consider myself a "South Astorian"!

On the corner of 35th St. and 36th Ave. - the post office doesn't seem to care whether I say I'm in L.I.C. or Astoria, so I use both, depending on my mood.

I started out (13 yrs ago) on 30th ave and 35th street living for 3 yrs. in a 2nd floor studio of a  "rowhouse" (paid $530 till I left), above the pizza joint that's still there. Then moved to a one-bdrm, 16 unit on 38th street and Astoria blvd., (rent went from $630 to $830 in 10 years, yes, in a rent stabilized, rent controlled and fantastic owned building with a landlord who was very hands on) Now, happily at 44th/Newtown with access to both train lines. yeh!!! but I miss standing outside for the N looking out at the city. :  )

I feel you on that last line!  This was my first complete week on the R at 46th Street and I have to say that I miss standing at the end of the platform on the Manhattan bound 36th Avenue train stop.  I would look at the UES or further down at the Citibank building and the ESB.  I would stare northward towards 30th Avenue, where you could make out headlights of the train as it turned the corner and then dipped before emerging again before B'way!

It is a little depressing after 9 years of above ground platforms to wait underground at 6:45 AM!

Just be happy you don't have the wind cutting through you while you wait outside on these frigid days.

I'm on 29th and 35av...
Have been for a long long time...
Love it, I have everything I need nearby, and in walking distance.
The area is quiet and normally safe.
It'll be interesting to see how the changes that are happening play through...
it'll be a new neighborhood all over again...
;)
