dumbek is the famous middle eastern drum, also called Darbooka / darbuka / Tabla and some more names. it is used also in Balkan countries and greece. it's a hand percussion that accompanies live music played by Oud (middle eastern "guitar") lute, harp, klarinet and more and also can be played solo for a belly dancer.

This is the round drum with a support in the (open) back?

Where would one get a dumbek for cheap?   :-)

I am a musician and I am interested.  I am also poor.   :-P

Cary, I'll give you a dollar if you'll modify your post to read, "I hate to sound like a dumbek, but what exactly is dumbek?"
