Sports category request
« on: August 23, 2006, 09:46:38 PM »
I'm a big sports nut, and would LOVE for Astorians.com to have a category (or even a subcategory) just devoted to sports.  Right now the Mets and Yanks are in first place, fantasy football is starting up, and we just went through one of the most entertaining world cups ever.  I'm sure other sports-minded guys and gals would love to have a section devoted purely to this topic where they can celebrate (or cry) about their fave teams (local or otherwise)

It can also be used to set up games among the community (softball, ultimate frisbee, touch football, heck even poker, bowling, or darts)

Thanks!
-Rob

I'm keeping an eye on this thread. If there's continued interest (among others) we may add it.

Sounds like it could be cool.

I'm also curious as to whether or not there's a way to include sports but broaden the topic a bit.

Like what else goes with sports?

Sports & Games, Gaming -- including WoW, football, poker, frisbee, running

I think just sports might be a little too narrow.  But I'm also not a sports geek.

I know I've been wanting a place to discuss IFOCE events Meg but alas, there's no category for it so I've just been holding it in. :)

I like Rob's suggestions for a sports category.  I think it would be cool to have a special category to talk about our hometown NY teams and sports in general.

yes, sports and games would be fine too (although since poker is on espn I assume it now qualifies as a sport  :-) .  running and frisbee are certainly sports as well.  what is WoW?

yeah, the cowboys have had some rough years.......

we absolutely need a sports thread.....I wanna talk about going to a football game, I think I would only feel safe with a Giants fan though!

Sports thread, sports thread, all together now, sports thread.  :-)

Count me in for a "yea" vote on a sports (& gaming) thread.

No season tickets, but I am a Giants (and football) fan(atic) ... we may need to start Sunday afternoon football game get-togethers. Take turns at each others apartment's or bars, etc. I find football (unlike hockey) is better on TV than at the stadium, unless you have those thousand-dollar seats at mid-field.

oh, and Rob ... I never get sick of hearing Jets fans whining about how awful they are ...

we need some sports-related emoticons too...although this guy looks like lou pinella:  :ticked:

Me, soon to possibly jump on the Cubs bandwagon (what!?!, so what if I'll be living on the Southside and should support the White Sox), would love to see the Mets in the World Series this year. So I think a sports thread would be good, for both our randomness about our respective sports team fandom and things like frisbee, gym-ing, etc

Oh man. World of Warcraft - a sport all its own. There is an amazing amount of calories burned via intense right-clicking (or left) and furious typing (normally along the lines of "LFG Deadmines," "Gratz!," "WTS Black Pearl 1g," or "Are you 8-years-old? You're so immature."

I know pre-season doesn't count, but on a psychological level.........YESSSSSSSSSSSSS (as Cathy does a little victory dance around the room).

Cowboys usually suck at preseason but this year they have three wins under their belts!!! (jockstraps?)

Does anyone have DirecTV? And who will maybe invite me over for Cowboy games if I bring food and beer?

Cowboys season kicks off Sept 10........

                                                 :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
