Brownout?
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:18:53 PM »
I just got home from work and turned on a light and my air conditioner. The light is dim, and the air conditioner sounds like it doesn't have enough power to run so I shut it off. Anyone else experiencing this, or is my apartment just special?

Yup, my lights were dimming out earlier, my fan is running at a very low speed, and my AC isn't running well.  Glad to see it's not just me....

I just called the ConEd 800 number and they had a message saying they're having low voltage issues in the Long Island City area. yep... my stove won't even spark.

I'm right next to the Con Ed plant so I guess it's Astoria too.

Yeah, same here. It's about a 5-minute walk from me. Ironic, huh?

Over @ Hell Gate Social its a cool 74 degrees and even cooler with a nice cold Hell Gate Social Lemonade.
Who'd of thunk that heading over to Hell (Gate Social) would be a way to help one cool off?

Hey, LaGuardia airport is out of power, so is Yonkers.  Just saw it on the news...

Yeeeeeow!

Okay, okay, I'm turning my AC off already.  Sheesh.

In the last five minutes I think the temperature in my apartment has gone up ten degrees...

The first day of a heatwave and we already power outtages. My TV went off 4 times this evening, I'm taking a chance just going online, I don't want a power surge to screw up my computer. My mother told me my father's oxygen concentration machine can't work in this brownout, and he needs the machine more during this extreme heat. Con Ed won't even answer their customer service number, all they say is that some areas have no power due to extreme weather conditions. Even my cable company has better customer service than that.

Damn, the lights are dimming again, gotta go.  :|

I haven't had brownouts up here near Ditmars, but definitely there have been regular brief power drops. My cable modem went out for a while, and, whoops, there it goes again! I wonder if the cable people are getting hit by brownouts? I'm glad I've got a UPS for my computer, but it does make it difficult to get anything done on the web if my connection keeps going out... Oh, well.

Ahah, the 'net's back! Hope it lasts long enough to post this. :)

Glad to see I'm not going crazy. I thought we must be having a brownout. You see, I have an electric stove. It took so long to get some water boiling tonight, I half-expected the C-Town on 34th Avenue to have been completed by the time I was done. (Rimshot! Some "Astoria-only" humor for ya, folks.)

BTW, I love that ConEd is telling everyone it's "extreme weather conditons". Um, it's hot in July. Yeah, who could have foreseen that?

I'm over by Astoria Blvd and 31st St. and there haven't been any problems here...  Let's hope is stays that way.  No AC is not good for a 9 month 30 day pregnant wife....

Yesterday evening around 7:30  my microwave started slowing down in mid use, then sped back up.  Now at 2:40-something AM another brief blip.  That transformer farm over by the 21st Avenue Staples is probably sparking up to high heaven!
