Disappointed with the 2012 Hellgate CSA
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:33:45 AM »
Hi fellow Hellgate CSA'ers,

Is anyone else disappointed with the shares this year? We keep getting things like lettuce and mini tomatoes well into October. Where is the winter squash? Where is the kale? Where is the variety? I know farms are not guaranteed, but weather wise we've had a pretty great year.

Looking back over the years:

Tomorrow's share:
October 23, 2012
- arugula
 - scallions
 - sweet potatoes
 - lettuce
 - mini tomatoes
 - string beans

Last year:
October 25, 2011
 - Red lacinato kale
 - carrots
 - green string beans
 - curly cress
 - broccoli
 - scallions

Two years ago:
October 19, 2010
- sweet potatoes
 - lettuce
 - string beans
 - winter squash
 - diakon
 - senposai

Maybe my memory is failing me. But overall, I have felt that the shares this year lack variety and are noticeably smaller. Does anyone else feel this way?

Although this is our first year with Hellgate CSA, we feel that indeed the variety isn't there. There tend to be some week over week staples, lettuce, tomatoes, beans and squash (usually zucchini).

I'm not complaining though (only agreeing), we eat what we get and love it.

Have you been brainwashed today?
