Broadway Bakeway Blockbuster Beergarden BBQ
« on: April 04, 2012, 11:18:30 PM »
Makes for an awesome alliteration.

The Bakeway folk of Broadway are renovating the Blockbuster space to turn it into a beer garden or was it a bbq joint? or ... both?

I was told it would be open .... soon... that's relative right? Before summer anyway.

I haven't seen anything going on in the Blockbuster space.  Are they really working on it now?

Also, does anyone know what became of the old bowling alley space under Blockbuster?  Did the current tenants (I think a recording studio or something like that) rip out the lanes or has it remained intact?

I can't reveal my sources, but... Yes, it will be both, and have outdoor seating.

It won't be too welcome by residents who will have to deal with the noise.  A place across street, which opened as restaurant but is actually club on weekends, has area going crazy over  noise from blasting music on weekends. Now other side of street will have Beer Garden---they are going to be pissed.

What place across the street from Blockbuster has become a club?  Is it Monte restaurant?

Yes, my aunt lives on that block, every weekend they have DJ and people on block are pissed.  Was that place ever actually a restaurant?      People living on 33rd avenue toll me  if they have windows open music carries.

A Beer Garden there might be nice, if done right.  Outdoors would get people on north side of Broadway in uproar.
THere  is a  huge building behind that spot, only about 20 feet away.

The rent will kill them, I wonder if they are taking up the whole former Blockbuster  space, or if it is being divided?

I spoke to an owner the other day.  He said they're just waiting on permits - but they're ready to go (it didn't look particularly ready but... )

200 seats inside.  And outside... he was a little vague.  No seating... but it's a garden.  And people can ... sit there.

Southern BBQ was how he described the place.

I would not want to live in apartment behind them if it's going to be outdoor spot.

I am cautiously optimistic.  I hope this place will be good but also neighborhood friendly and not create chaos on Broadway in the late evening hours.

Anyone want to re-open the bowling alley now???

Was there a bowling alley on block under  a movie theatre at one time on that block?

No matter how good their food is, they need to be shut down.   They have entire block up in arms over noise problems on weekends.  Useless councilman Peter Vallone promised to do something, naturally problem is still on going.    My aunt called   me Sunday night, they were blasting music and hanging out in yard at 4:30 in the morning.  (My aunt is 92, so I get calls from her on things like this---at 4:30 in morning)    She had called  earlier, and i could hear music, called 311 for her.  When she called at 4:30, I could actually hear guys talking over her phone when she put it to window.   She live about 70 feet from place.  They suck, I suggest people boycott them, although they make most of their money from club business on weekends.

Vallone=useless.

I passed by the old Blockbuster space on Broadway this morning and found the door open.  A lot of work is going on in there.  The place is totally transformed from the Blockbuster space, but a lot more work appears necessary before it opens to the public.  It did look like they are doing quite a nice job in there -- wood paneled walls, etc.  I wonder what their projected opening date is.  It would behoove them to have it open as early in the summer as possible.

I walked past today and saw several picnic-type long benches outside of the glass doors.  It's looking very nice.
