Queens CSA and Hellgate CSA: A Tale of TWO CSA's
« on: May 18, 2006, 09:26:04 AM »
How fortunate we are in Astoria to have two CSAs!  I thought I'd just break down for a minute the virtues of both.

Both Astoria CSAs distribute vegetables from Green Thumb Farm in Long Island and proudly claim Bill Halsey as their farmer.  The season starts for both in June with similar share options and both distribute veggies on Tuesdays.

So why then, are there two CSAs?  Because there can be!

Queens CSA is ten years old, started in 1996, and distributes from the ARROW Community Center (35-38 35th Street in Astoria, at 35th Avenue).  The share is slightly larger (more family sized) and costs slightly more per week.

Find out more about the Queens CSA at their website:  http://www.queenscsa.org

The Hellgate CSA is in its second year, started in 2005, and distributes from the Ditmars area in front of the Freeze Peach Cafe (22-00 29th Street, at Ditmars).  The share is smaller (1-2 people) and as such, is priced lower per week.

For more information about other CSAs all over the city, visit Just Food and look for their complete city-wide listing.

Yes, thanks Jayme for this. Of course both distributions are Tuesdays, so Farmer Bill can do everything in a single weekly trip.
