Jackson Heights Momo Crawl
« on: November 22, 2021, 10:19:49 AM »
Just wanted to share an event I am organizing this Sunday called the Momo Crawl.

A momo is a Himalayan dumpling that has an incredible presence in the Jackson Heights area. (I think Astoria is devoid of them at the moment)

There are currently around 30 places selling the momo here and on Sunday the 28th, most sell them individually for $1 each. We have a trolley, vintage cab, and pedicab to usher you around with dancing performances and, at the end, we vote on a winner and march the championship belt to their doorstep. There's a lot to it and it's a fun, low cost event.

In addition to the usual crawling of the momos, we will have:

A dance show on Diversity Plaza put on by

Queensboro Dance Festival featuring
- Manhatitlan Mexican Folkloric Dance Club
- Kinding Sindaw (Filipino dance)
- Ayazamana Ecuadorian Dance Group
- Dege Cultural Dance (Tibetan)
and Mimang Lhakar Nynj (Tibetan) starting off the crawl at 2pm

- Art exhibit from Saral Nepali Language and Culture Center school
- Neighborhood art exhibit installation of Momo Wheels created with my father Lester Orlick and Lo-nyamship Kyiduk school - Special guest world-famous calligraphers TBA

And a trolley, pedicab, and Famous Fat Dave escorting crawlers in his vintage NYC taxi cab

Pick up your Momo maps at Diversity Plaza then embark on your crawl. Maps are $5 (free for kids), momos are $1 each at all participating restaurants (almost 30)
