What? If you go to the DSA web site, there are no press releases about any "caucus" (there's exactly one avowed socialist on the Hill - Senator Bernie Sanders!), and if you search their site for "Maloney" you get nothing relevant. Good job spreading false rumors, buddy!

Well, not exactly.  It seems the list of members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/index.cfm?ContentID=166&ParentID=0&SectionID=4&SectionTree=4&lnk=b&ItemID=164 was claimed as the list of members of the DSA-and I am not really sure who initially made the claim.  Nor I am not really sure why any progressive would disavow socialism, except perhaps if they fear the word itself is tainted in the eyes of many voters...which leads one to some interesting musings on moral courage.

(FWIW, the Democratic Socialists are along the lines of the liberal parties in Europe. The Green Party in the US is sorta similar... We're not talking Bolsheviks here!)

We may not be talking Bolsheviks here, since the Democrat Socialists of Europe (and I presume our homegrown socialist utopian nitwits) generally do not resort to violence when they cannot win over the public, but the end goal of both is a socialist society.

I do not have the same confidence that the Greens, should they continue to be frustrated at achieving political power, will not resort to "special methods."   A fringe group convinced that mankind itself is a threat to the planet? What could possibly go wrong?

When I first read the press release Mangopaco posted.......the Progressive Caucus came to mind as to what he was referring to. Maybe Dino thinks progressives are socialists.

I found the press release to be a silly rant.

It's still very interesting to me that "socialism" is such a taboo word in the United States; he's definitely playing off that.  But, we're talking about the Upper East Side and Astoria here.

Obviously socialism bears relation to communism, remember the USSR and Cold War.

True.  And I understand that.  Still I'm surprised that, even though almost 60% of Americans believe that free market capitalism is "fatally flawed" or "has problems that can be addressed through reform or regulation," they're afraid of the label.

I guess it's still too soon after the Cold War...

AND, there's all these folks saying Maloney is a commie...

Now before I get yelled at for posting links to rumors, know that all I did was google "Carolyn Maloney communist" to find the source for Dino's Press Release.  I am not in any way endorsing Dino or the idea that Carolyn Maloney is a Communist.  I just find this funny.

Progressives for capitalism?

There are a number of things that folks find funny that I would not feel comfortable posting.
I will certainly keep an interest for Dino but it remains to be seen if he wins a primary in Sept.

I would like to know if candidates wish we would be more like Europe.
But do any of the questions here affect your decisions between Reshma and Maloney? Is the idea that we could have a Democrat for capitalism?

I have not heard it mentioned yet, one thing Reshma has going for her are ideas that favor growing employment.
When it comes to the general election, I will be looking at candidates that favor less spending and less taxes.

I know I wish we were more like Europe.

I recall Bush's campaign in 2000 about compassionate conservatism......I bought into it and voted for him....and his 8 years drove me from the GOP.

but here we are in a downturn that hurt everyone but the richest.

It must be nice to buy a 30 million dollar apartment after destroying the simple wealth of the single homeowners of this nation.

By Clearview’s standards ‘Go to Europe’ could be construed as telling someone to GO TO HELL, which I remind everyone is a direct violation of the manifesto set forth in the rules and regulation of this website and a betrayal of the progressive and social ideals we try to impose on the Astorian collective.

So please be compassionate and conservative in your speech -- isn’t that a capital idea?

Go to Europe does not mean go to hell. What I am trying to state is that we are not going to have a socialist society here like the ones that are in Europe and the Republicans will stop that from happening because the European lifestyle comes with VERY high taxes (minimum VAT of 14% in all European Union countries) and with very high rates of government spending (Greece).

I'll leave it unexplained.
