Marriage Equality Bill
« on: October 21, 2009, 05:00:32 PM »
If you live in Astoria, your State Senator is Senator George Onorato.  Who knew??  He is on the fence when it comes to marriage equality.  A fence can't be a very comfortable thing to sit on these days.  Please call or write your district 12 senator because the only way New York will allow same-sex marriage is if we get our leaders off the fence.  We can march on Washington until we're blue in the face, but it's more important to press our local officials to make the big changes in Albany.  Call Senator Onorato's office at 518-455-3486 and tell him to vote YES on the Marriage Equality Bill 4401.  Or contact him online at http://www.nysenate.gov/senator/george-onorato

Pick up the phone or e-mail today.  Let's all do our part to move New York state toward full equality.

Thank you.

bless you, whoever you are. :)

I've been doing this until I'm blue in the face.

Also, call State Senator John Sampson, the new leader of the Senate. He sets the agenda for the Senate. He's the one who decides which bills are voted on:

Albany office: (518)455-2788
-leave a message either with his secretary or leave a voicemail. Tell him to have a vote on the gay marriage bill!

I hope the vote happens and I hope we win!  I wish Bloomberg would be doing more on it.

The problem is that Bloomberg’s actions regarding gay marriage have been at sharp odds with his laudable words. A disjunction between words and deeds are unfortunately all too common in the mayor’s LGBT record.

And of course, VOTE IN THE CITY COUNCIL ELECTION THIS TUESDAY!!  It's super important that the entire LGBT and Allied Community gets out and votes on Tuesday, Nov 3rd.  We've got a choice between the incumbent (Vallone) who is AGAINST gay marriage and the Green Party challenger, Lynne Serpe, who is a major advocate of marriage equality and civil/human rights.  Check out http://www.SerpeforCouncil.com and vote for Lynne this Tuesday!
