As someone who was raised in a fundamentalist Christian church (but no longer a part of), "conspiracy theory" isn't quite the right word. The world view preached along with the salvation and and the end-of-days rhetoric is basically that the world "outside" is an evil place and that "we are not of this world." So anything and anyone "of the world" (not a God-fearing Christian) is suspect.

As someone raised in the heart of the Bible belt, I'm going to say that's 75% baloney. While probably true in some groups, it's a stretch to apply this to an entire populace.

No one said that it applied to the entire populace - But I'm curious, did you have a religious upbringing, and if so, of what stripe?

It frustrates me to think that we might have leaders in this country - as she is a governor of a state - that are that uneducated and ignorant.  I mean, I know Palin has some serious knowledge gaps and a real lack of intellectual curiosity, but if she lacks this basic level of knowledge, we really need to revamp our educational system.

We do need to revamp our educational system. There's http://www.alternet.org/story/106551/ on alternet that's not exactly cheery but certainly describes what's going on in terms of education and manipulation.

Yes. All the way. (I was even home schooled, although not for religious reasons.) Fundamentalist with a SDA tint. And yes, I'm still a believer.

This should bring us back on topic:  :D

It doesnt matter who wins.
You dont have a choice.
they presented to you 2 politicians to chose from.
the corporations who were backing the 2 pumped lots of money for their campains
where was Ron paul during these debates? (who actually won the polls for the republican debates)
the only true politician who speaks for the people & the protection of the constituition.

Obama will not help the situation ...just like Mcain couldnt help the situation.

When will we realize that the presidents are puppets...just actors.
The Real problem is the fraudulent Federal reserve system that is bigger than the government.

The Federal reserve controls the countries money supply and thus controls everything.

We should abolish the Federal reserve !!!!

Bernanke & Paulson should be trialed for treason !!!!

They have robbed us of our funds !!!!!

and they will get away with it....while we will go into the greatest depression the world has ever seen

thanks to the Federal reserve.

Obama Change?

lets understand that politicians have no power.

Im not saying I have solutions...but i would love to hear some.

For starters I would like to see the federal reserve abolished
and return some standard to back up our money supply.
maybe this would do away with inflation.

Im not here to battle anyone
or mean no disrespect to anyone.
we are all in this together.
So that said im open to ideas.

have a good day

In an Ayn Randian sense, the idea of returning to a gold standard is appealing, but there is not enough gold left in the world for that to happen.  Besides other practical problems with the suggestion.

I remind myself that the Obama administration officially starts late January. Looking to reserve a lot of judgement for as long as makes sense.
Will see now whether Congress has more productive debates, with more agreeable disagreements.

I hoped to find the fun cartoon where the Obama staffers get back to the White House to look for where they had carved their initials during the Clinton administration.

Just a bit OT

'make new friends, but keep the old,
one is silver, and the other gold'

It should not surprise me that banks and money have been a political topic through many decades.
Below is one presentation on related subjects. While the banks may inflate money, they could choose otherwise.

Money, Gold, and the Great Depression

I also wanted to include another view regarding supply, demand, and the role of money, but I do not find one that satisfies as yet.

Im a bit impressed that Meet the Press got Obama for Dec. 7. Though other shows would have SoS.
