New advertising
« on: May 11, 2008, 11:02:04 AM »
WTF? Advertising just got a whole lot more intrusive today! On one occasion I got redirected to a an ad page with a video and music, and every page has random words converted to links with mouse-over pop-ups. This is totally not cool...

Agreed. Insanely annoying. It's like the mods signed up for every obnoxious ad program known to man and threw it on the board. Auto play music....really?? Are you kidding me??

I hope this was a mistake.

The Blinx(?) ad, you know the one that overlays the whole window, completely crashed Firefox (most recent version on windows).  :-P

Since a lot of us check the boards at work ads with sound are a very very bad thing. the last thing i need is the owner to hear something random blasting out of the reception computer. And the overlay ads, since it could be anything, are also not good since if my boss does a screen capture of astorians.com he's fine but if he screen captures one of these ads that may not be appropriate I could get in a whole lot of trouble and have this site blocked. since i have nothing to do but look at this site and others it would be tragic.

I don't mind the banners or the text ad links, but the blinx ads are a bit much.  And yeah, it crashed my firefox at work too.

The blinx ad also crashed my Firefox browser as well.  It doesn't seem to be a problem on IE6, however, it's not my browser of choice.

I'm all for advertising but these blinx ads are a major ass-pain.

Except if you don't want to be logged in all the time. I have no problem with ads in general as I've accepted them as a part of life, but these things are annoying as hell, especially when sound is involved and the fact that they block the entire screen. Apparently they're causing browser problems for some people, too. Not good.

These were turned off at 7pm last night. I tend to agree they are very annoying.
